About My Rings

The Art of Change

How I Got Started; Why I Keep Going

After I finished my first ring, I was absolutely hooked. I started making rings out of pocket change. When I ran out of that, I went to the bank and got a roll of half-dollars and turned them into rings. Then I went back for some Eisenhower Dollars and made rings from those. Before I knew it, I had 40 or 50 rings in various locations around my garage. I told myself I was just practicing, but somewhere deep inside, I knew it was more than that. It wasn’t about pocket change, but it was, absolutely, about change.

As a society, we are extremely resistant to change. I’ve worked with organization after organization that has begged me to help them change, then fought me over nearly every change I proposed! But at my core, I’m a process engineer — it’s what I was built to do, so I keep doing it. And even though it’s frustrating sometimes, every now and then a change sticks, and that’s enough to keep me going back for more.

But coins? Coins don’t fight me. They bend to my will — literally. (Yes, I am aware that sounds a little melodramatic!) I start with one thing — a coin. Then I remove its center, heat it to blistering temperatures again and again, literally turn it inside out, smooth out the rough edges as I go, and finally apply the finishing touches. And then I have a ring. It was a coin, now it’s a ring. It was one thing, and now it’s another thing. And not only does it have no desire to turn back into a coin, it couldn’t if it wanted to! So while I love coin rings for what they are, I love them even more for what they represent: the art of change.

The Finishing Touch

Making it yours

Coin rings can be as personal as you want them to be. I stock many different coins and silver rounds, but I can use your coin, or even find the perfect coin for you.

Customization doesn’t stop there. It should probably go without saying, but I’ll say it: each ring is made as precisely as possible to your desired size. And after it has been formed, your new ring can have a flat wall look, or a rounded appearance. It can be finished with a high polish, or a nice patina that really highlights the details.

And I offer one more unique service: lifetime free resizing and refinishing. So while there are many decisions to make when it comes to crafting the perfect ring for you, you’ll never have to worry about making the wrong decision when it comes to size or finish!

Material Matters

Because Nobody Wants Green Fingers!

Through the years, mints have used different materials for coins. Without going into too much detail, you really want your ring to be made from (mostly) silver or gold. Nickel rings can cause severe skin irritation, and clad (copper based) rings usually turn fingers green. The far majority of the rings I make are from coins that have at least 90% silver composition.

This isn’t something you need to be too concerned about. I’ll talk through your options with you and make sure we find the perfect coin for you and for your skin!
